About the museum
The Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the newest in the town, opened on 28th of June 1953. Regardless its age, it exposes a lot of valuable works by important artists like Juan Ismael, Oscar Dominguez, Will Faber and many more. The collection is divided into four parts which show the rich Spanish art.The first is dedicated to surrealism, the second to international art from 1935-1964, the third to post-war Spanish art and the fourth to the Canaries in the 1950s and ‘60s, LADAC (the Archers of Contemporary Art) and Nuestro Arte. This modest yet prominent museum, re-established in Puerto de la Cruz after an absence of 40 years, was a pioneer in the history of contemporary Spanish art. The works on display are representative of the main artistic trends of the twentieth century.
